Maria Russo owns Philip’s Salon, you could say the business is her blood. She’s been working here ever since her father opened up in 1961. For Maria, once you sit down in her chair, you are her top priority. She strives to make sure that you leave feeling better than when you walked in. Despite her 50 years of experience, she says there’s always something new to learn. From classes with Sassoon to getting Deva Curl certified, Maria passionately pursues ways to improve her services for you the client. Most recently she traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the Hair Summit on Hair Loss. There she learned how to assess and evaluate a client’s hair loss, determine a cause, and help them decide their next course of action. She has helped many clients find specialists in the Greater Boston area for treatment.
Doreen Merola has been working at Philip’s for 35 years. She’s lived in the North End her entire life. Before finding cosmetology - Doreen wanted to go into social work to help others. That passion and love of others is obvious every time someone sits in her chair. Her favorite part of being a hair dresser is helping create the vision her client is picturing in their head.
